Jean Belanger started glass in 1987. At first he specialized in carved sandblasting. He took a workshop with the founder of the Espace verre school in Montreal and fell in love with molten glass. Four years later he quite his studio in Quebec city to go back to school and learn hot glass at Espace verre. He then went for a short stay in Vancouver BC. In 1996 he build the hot shop of an associative glass studio "Atelier du faubourg des arts" in Mont St-Hilaire were he learn more fused glass techniques with Guy Loyer .
Back in Quebec city in 1998 he opens Verrerie Coquelicot ( The poppy flower glasshouse) doing mostly solid glass and large fused glass. Over the last 19 years he has produced architectural and artistic pieces. ( see the list below). Striving steadily to progress technically and artistically, over the years he acquired a wide expertise of architectural integration and a flourishing style. he describe his work as follow:
" I don't have a fixed idea of my style, it's in the message transmitted by the energy of the sculpture that I find my joy. Wherever it's in a fused glass wall or in a solid glass sculpture some kind of vitality is transmitted.
Even if some ludicrous or esthetical parameters are existent, I believe every sculpture is impringated on an invisible level by concentration of the moments of its creation.
I simply hope to give joy and vitality."
